Coonan...What is best in life?!

To crush youhr enumies. To see dem dribben before youh. And lestun to da lamentashunz of der weemun...

I used to love the Conan books (Robert Howard's - not the comics) when I was about 12. Gratuitous sex. Gorey violence. And smart people (ie: wizards) getting beat down. *Sigh* Everything a growing boy needs... All wrapped up between a kick ass Frank Frazetta cover.

That being said, I never felt the need to draw the big guy. But the other night, the itch took me.

Chuck Jones once said that the easiest way to draw Bugs Bunny was to draw a carrot and attach a rabbit to it. I think the same holds true for Conan. Just draw a half-nekkid lady with pendolous boobs and attach Conan to her...Hopefully I suceeded.

Cool interpretation! I was a MONSTER Conan fan in college, and remember foaming at the mouth when the word had spread of a movie being produced. I thought that the Gubbernator was a great VISUAL choice, as well. I saw the first movie, hurled, thought that the second movie was going to make up for the first one, saw it, convulsed, THEN hurled! The movies pretty much killed the love for quite awhile, but recently, I went through my old collection of books, and started reading, and sparked the love anew! Looking at your interpretation has inspired me to hit the drawing board &...do some Conan...

DEL REY books has been doing some new collections of Robert Howard's stories (Conan, Kull, Solomon Kane, ect.)...wanna know the best part? They got Gary Gianni to do a lot of the colors and...and!...black and white interior art! They're frickin' sweeter than all get out!

Great pic you really nailed the feel of Frank Frazetta without copying his style. By the way did you see the Frank Frazetta special that the IFC did on him?

I only saw parts of that. One of the coolest things I've ever done though, is visit the Frazetta Museum in East Strousburg, PA. Basically, he and his family live on a gigantic estate and they built a little museum on the property that is open to the public on Saturdays in the Spring and Summer. I got to meet his wife and see a ton of classic Frazetta in person. I felt like I was in a church. It was awe inspiring. Those paintings look a thousand times cooler in person. So much is lost in the reproductions. If you ever get the chance and are a fan, go!

When I saw this I didn't think of Arnold or the comics despite of the name; the Conan version that came to mind was Howard's right away. You captured the original Conan perfectly in this image. Kudos for a phenomenal drawing and f**k you for making my cartoon Conan look like crap now in comparisson :p
